Some Photo Club Success

Last night I had some successes in the Light & Shadow Camera Club in Pictorial, Travel and Photojournalism.  A couple first places and thirds.  I’m excited since I still feel pretty new to photography and I have only had a DSLR since September of ’09.  Yes, I have had other point-and-shoot cameras, but I never took them too seriously.   The other photographers in the club are very experienced and constantly put out  amazing photographs and I learn quite a bit from their work, techniques and criticisms.   Placing in competition could be a bad thing however, it will just encourage me which will likely lead to wanting more lenses, filters, flashes, etc etc. 🙂

Here are the images I submitted that did well.

  1. Congrats, Sean – awesome! 🙂

Besides bragging rights, what did you win?

  2. Just the chance for those images to move on to the larger inter-club level and then hopefully beyond that if they place there. The club has competitions every month in rotating categories.

Mainly, it’s rewarding to see that other photographers like the work and hear the criticisms during the review.

    • I bet. I should have mentioned in my previous post how amazing the images are. I can see why they placed or won. “Return Flight to Kansas” and “Winter Beckons” are both outstanding!

  7. Great photos Sean. I especially liked the “Return Flight to Kansas”, partly because I was raised in Kansas but mostly because you did a great composition there. I also really liked Winter Beckons.

    • Thanks! The leaf is turning out to be quite popular here. It wasn’t nearly the case at home with the family. I guess they see too many photos from me.

Glad to have stopped by your blog. Some good stuff over there.
