At Deer Hollow Farm in the park on Sunday, there was a small garden with this Papaver poppy growing.  The delicate red paper-thin wrinkled petals and how they catch the light are just wonderful.   The white anthers and purple filaments combined with the bright yellow pistil that looks like a fancy pat of butter work so well for this large flower.

  1. What an exotic-looking flower! Don’t cringe but yet another ‘twilight-ish’ feel – lol! Must be the deep bloody reds. You are so right about the center! A fancy pat of butter for sure! Beautiful! 🙂

    • Exotic flower yes.. But don’t get me started on the whole dead people are sexy thing. You’re pushing it, Tracy. 😀 I haven’t seen a flower like it before, and it’s very cool.

    • Reading briefly around the web on them, they are supposed to be easy to grow in a shady area. I am not sure about the climate requirements. California and poppies go well together, so I may have to find some seeds for these guys and plant them in the back yard.
