California Quail

California Quail

This little quail was on the trail sitting on a branch as we were walking by on the way to the farm.  He was sitting in a very picturesque spot until I brought the camera out, and then he started scooting down.  I managed to get a couple shots before he went into the underbrush.  I didn’t realize just how colorful a quail is.

  2. I was wondering how many seconds it would be after I posted it before you found it, Tracy. 😉 Thanks! He was pretty chatty too.

    • Ha! How’d I do? I actually would have been quicker but I was in the middle of something when the e-mail of this posting came in. 😉

      • Actually, it was way longer than it felt. 21 minutes. It felt like 2. 🙂

  3. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a quail before… other than on cooking shows, but well… they look a little different there 😉

    • Now you know what they look like with their feathers on! The question now is, are they better looking on or off the plate. 😉

  7. Hello Sean. Very nice quail you’ve got there. Very unfortunate there’s a bit of clutter on the background. But it can’t be helped when it comes to wildlife shots. They don’t stay around long enough for you to recompose. Haha 🙂

Awwww what a beautiful shot! I LOVE these quail. I used to work in an aviary and I had a little quail friend named Anthony 🙂

    • Anthony, not something I would have ever attributed to a quail myself, but I like it! 🙂
