California Wildflower

Wildflower

What are these little iridescent pearl flower buds?  I have no idea.  I found them in the local hills on a bush and are very cool.  I have no idea what they look like in bloom.  If you know what they are, let me know, I was unable to identify them online.

  1. I’m not sure what they are, but they are stunning. I also love the recent sunset at the airport photos, fantastic!

    • Hi there. This flower is called ‘Pearly Everlasting’. I’m not sure that they actually bloom any more than they are in your photo, and if they do I’ve never seen them…

  2. My best guess is they are some sort of strawflower, possibly Desert Edelweiss. Strawflowers are the only flowers I know to have an irridescence to their petals. Very unusual shot!

    • I searched on these guys, with the Edelweiss but those don’t seem to have umbels and aren’t really shrubbery. I’m going to have to go back out there and see what they look like open.

  3. I’d have to say they’re the Western Yellow Tipped White Conical Flowery Type Thingy’s…. But then I guess you already know it’s a waste of time asking me… They make a nice shot though, and I guess that’s what matters… 😉

    • I should start using your names for the flowers. They are far more interesting. 🙂 Thanks, Brian.

I don’t know what they are, but they are amazing (as is your photograph of them). They look like someone’s crept out when nobody was looking and painted them silver!

    • Yeah, they are very silvery. That’s what caught my eye when walking by them. That and the little bits of yellow peeking through. Thank you, Val.

Love their metallic sheen – a bit like little ball bearings.
