Experimenting with Slideshare

At the UIE Web App Summit, Rashmi Sinha let me know about a product that she has been working on called Slideshare which is essentially a flash presentation of PowerPoint slides. I thought that I would experiment with it and post my slides from the UIE Web App Summit to make it easier for everyone to see them. My deck uses quite a few animations, both through PowerPoint and embedded avi files, so was hoping that the animations and transitions specified by PowerPoint would have been picked up, but they weren’t. As a result, the deck looks a bit rough and unpolished.

Overall, the Slideshare product looks promising for the future, and I’m sure the missing features will get added.

Apparently WordPress doesn’t support embedding the Slideshare objects so my deck can be found here: http://www.slideshare.net/seankane/developing-a-great-user-interface/

  1. Ya, WordPress.com does not support slideshare embeds yet. We are trying to get them to change that :->

  2. Hey Sean, would there be any chance of you sharing the actually PPT or PPS? Some of the screens really get squished in Slideshare.

Yeah, I’d also love to see the actual PPT, with the animations you mentioned. Sorry to have missed the summit itself. I would have liked to heard your presentation.

  4. I’m working on a retail site for our old time pharmacy here in Carmel, CA. But I’m sort of interested in competing on a bigger scale. I love netflix, i love the rating system and the popup image boxes when you mouse over movie titles now. I’m interested in someone in the private sector who has the knowledge base that YOU have, but that doesn’t work for netflix heh. I’m building a basic site in Dreamweaver right now, but i have no programming background except for a dice program in Pascal back in eleventh grade. Any feedback or direction would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.
